Santa Cruz, La Palma La Palma, the garden isle, is noted for it's traditional crafts and beautiful Spanish colonial buildings in the capital, Santa Cruz. The interior of the island is dominated by a gigantic volcanic crater, La Caldera de Taburiente. La Palma is also home to the only active volcano in Spain. Funchal, Madeira The wild and rugged beauty of Madeira draws visitors in for the temperate climate, linens and lace. Santa Catarina Park, Santa Clara Convent and a 15th century fort to repel pirate attacks are all well worth a visit. Casablanca, Morocco A city whose very name summons images of romance and exoticism. Explore the Royal Palace and the lighthouse or join an excursion to the walled medina of Rabat, the country's capital. Tangier, Morocco "Come with me to the Casbah" is a byword for entering this city, once the base for the Moorish conquest of Spain. Gibraltar The 14,000 feet high Rock of Gibraltar marks the mediterranean's end. Take a cable car to the top or explore the many caves and tunnels. Visit the famous Barbary apes or shop at familiar shops in the town.
